Agent Eyes!

We have been working on our Agent Eyes - how we look at the world and spot patterns around us.

We think hard about the images before us:

What can you see?
What questions do you have?
Can you see any patterns?
Can you see any shapes?
Can you talk about numbers in the picture?
How many ... can you see? How do you know?

We made a video of our work - you can see it by clicking here

Ahuriri visit Te Hapua

On Tuesday 19th March all of Ahuriri went on an exciting trip to Te Hapua, Halswell's library.

It was a very long walk but the children were magnificent trampers and walked safely on the roads. We were lucky that some parents and some Buddy Ambassadors Lewis,Jamie, Sophie and Holly were able to come too.

Once we were at the library we met the two lovely librarians, Sarah and Kate.  They showed us the library and read some great stories.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us enjoy our trip to the library.

Assembly

Every 2 weeks on a Friday we have a whole school assembly.  Learning Teams take turns to present this and share some of their work.  Today was an extra long one as we had the excitement of the special guest Crusaders and a drama group.

Craig Pauling gave Halswell school a gift of two beautiful

Pākē (rain cape) for our school leaders.

We are always proud of our ACTIVE certificate winers!

Mr McCallum tells us news about the library.

It was fun to watch the teachers in the drama group.

Our Seas

This week we have been looking at how to care for our oceans.  The children were particularly concerned about the amount of rubbish going down the drains.  We enlisted the help of Mr Phil our caretaker to help us find out what exactly is in our drains.  There was a lot of rubbish.  We talked about remembering that our lunch boxes must be rubbish free and if there is any rubbish we must take it home.

An Amazing Find

Riley brought in an enormous stick insect that he found on his front door.  He told us that she pretends to be a stick so she doesn't get eaten by the birds.  She likes to eat raspberry leaves.  We had to be very gentle with her as she will think we are birds and be scared.  Thank you Riley for sharing all your information.
